Operations Lead, Porto

About Rent Anything
Rent Anything is a short- and mid-term gear rental business operating in Lisbon and Paris. We rent baby and children’s gear, mobility equipment, remote work tech, travel accessories and many more to visitors and residents who need quality equipment without buying it. We’re growing fast, and the business sits at the intersection of hospitality, logistics, and care.
We’re now expanding to Porto.
The opportunity
This is a launch role. Porto is a new market for us, and you’ll be the first person on the ground building it. You’ll inherit our brand, our systems, our supplier relationships, and our playbook from Lisbon and Paris — but you’ll be applying them to a market that’s currently zero. Volume will be modest at first and ramp as we invest in marketing and as you build local presence.
If you’re someone who thrives on building something from nothing, who likes the mix of strategic and hands-on work that comes with launching a market, and who wants to grow a role rather than slot into one — this is for you. If you want a defined, full-volume operation from day one, this role isn’t a fit.
The role
As Operations Lead for Porto, you’ll own our entire operation in the region. That means everything from the customer’s order confirmation to the equipment returning to storage, cleaned and ready for the next rental.
Your territory covers Porto city, Vila Nova de Gaia, the airport (Sá Carneiro), and occasionally the Douro Valley — with a clear understanding that Douro deliveries are longer trips and will be priced and scheduled accordingly.
👉 What you’ll own from day one
- Deliveries and collections. Planning daily routes, executing handovers at apartments, hotels, and homes across Porto and the surrounding areas and collecting equipment on time. You’ll be the person customers meet — friendly, professional, on time.
- Stock and inventory management. Knowing what we have, where it is, what’s out on rental, and what’s coming back when. Keeping the inventory system accurate and flagging stock gaps before they become problems. Helping us decide what to add as Porto demand reveals itself.
- Scheduling. Building the daily and weekly schedule that makes deliveries, collections, cleaning, and inspections all fit together — including the longer Douro trips which need different planning than city drops.
- Customer communications. Confirming bookings, answering questions, handling delivery logistics with guests, and dealing with the small problems that come up during a rental. You’ll be supported by our central team and tools, but you’re the local voice.
- Cleaning and gear inspection. Every item that comes back gets cleaned to our standard, inspected for wear or damage, and returned to ready-to-rent condition. You’ll flag items needing repair or replacement.
- Local presence and learning. As the first person on the ground in Porto, you’ll be our eyes and ears on what works locally — which neighbourhoods drive bookings, which partners (hotels, quintas, tour operators) are worth approaching, and what gear demand actually looks like here versus our other cities.
Who we’re looking for
✅ This role is right for you if:
- You know Porto and the surrounding areas well. Neighbourhoods, traffic patterns, parking realities, and the difference between Ribeira in summer and Ribeira in February.
- You have a car or van and a clean driving licence. Douro and airport runs require it, and Porto’s geography doesn’t reward scooter-only operators the way central Lisbon does.
- You speak Portuguese and English fluently. Most customers are international visitors; most local suppliers and partners are Portuguese.
- You’re physically capable of moving equipment that ranges from light (strollers, travel cots) to bulky (wheelchairs, mobility scooters).
- You’re presentable and warm. Many handovers happen in upscale rentals, hotels, and quintas — and customers often include families with young children or older travellers.
- You think like an owner. You notice the loose stroller wheel, you flag the supplier opportunity, and you don’t wait to be told. This is the single most important trait for a launch role.
- You’re organised. You can hold a delivery schedule, an inventory list, and a customer comms thread in your head — and across a wider territory than a single city operation.
- You’re patient with a ramp. Volume will be low at first. You’ll feel underused some weeks. The role grows as the market grows, and you’ll be a meaningful part of that growth.
- You’re available for some weekend and early-morning work — gear rentals follow travel patterns, not office hours. Schedule is structured and predictable within your agreed weekly hours, but it isn’t 9-to-5.
✨ Nice to have:
- Experience in hospitality, tourism, logistics, healthcare, or childcare — any role where you’ve handled both equipment and people with care.
- Existing relationships in Porto’s hospitality scene (hotels, quintas, short-term rental hosts, concierge networks).
- Familiarity with WordPress, Google Workspace, or basic order-management tools.
- French or Spanish, in addition to Portuguese and English.
📦 What we offer
- Part-time employment contract. Six-month fixed-term contract (contrato a termo certo a tempo parcial), 20–30 hours per week depending on the candidate and market ramp, with explicit conversion to a permanent contract on successful completion. Hours grow as Porto grows.
- Competitive hourly rate, reflecting that this is an ownership position. A specific range is discussed at the interview based on experience.
- Statutory benefits in full and pro-rated — holiday entitlement, holiday and Christmas subsidies, meal allowance (subsídio de alimentação), social security, all properly handled.
- Real autonomy. You own Porto. Within agreed standards and budgets, you make the calls — when to deliver, how to schedule, which local relationships to build.
- Vehicle expenses covered. Fuel, tolls, parking, and a per-kilometre allowance for use of your own vehicle on company business, or use of a company-arranged vehicle as volume grows.
- Growth with the market. As Porto scales, this role scales with it. The Operations Lead today is the Porto Manager when we have a local team, the Douro extension, and the inventory to match.
- Founders who will trust you to run it. We’re hiring because Porto needs a person who lives there and owns it. We’re not looking for someone to micromanage — we’re looking for someone we can trust.
👉 Ready to apply?
Submit your details below. In a few sentences (not a cover letter, just plain text), tell us why this role interests you and what you’d want to ask us about the business. If you’ve ever run operations, logistics, or hands-on service work before, one example of a problem you spotted and fixed without being asked.
We respond to every application within five working days. Shortlisted candidates have a 30-minute video call, then a working interview — a half-day shadowing real operations (either in Porto if we have volume by then, or in Lisbon), paid, before any final offer.
